Santa Clara Public Safety Unions Endorse Stadium |

Santa Clarans for Economic Progress is proud to announce that the Santa Clara Police Officers' Association and Santa Clara Firefighters Local 1171 have both endorsed the Santa Clara stadium campaign.
The Santa Clara POA represents over 140 sworn officers of the Santa Clara Police Department, many of whom will be asked to manage traffic and parking on event days and also help with stadium security.
Santa Clara POA President Patrick Nikolai praised the City and the 49ers for their thoughtful public safety plan for the stadium: “Chief Lodge has worked with the City and the 49ers to craft a traffic and parking plan that safeguards our neighborhoods.â€
Speaking on behalf of 154 members, Jeremy Ray, Secretary of Santa Clara Firefighters Local 1171, was equally pleased with the potential stimulus for local business: "We believe the stadium proposal will create much needed economic growth and development in the city, both in the short and long term."
We’re happy to have the support of the Santa Clara public safety unions, along with that of many other business, community, and professional organizations throughout Silicon Valley. If you belong to an organization that would like to endorse the stadium project, visit our Contact page and let us know. |

Volunteer Spotlight: Above and Beyond |
Every week between now and June 8th, we’ll highlight the volunteers who make this campaign possible. This week’s spotlight is once again courtesy of Field Organizer Eric Stroker in the "Fightin’ 4th" Region:
Robert Ravizza is a member of the local 49ers Booster Club and has been one of my best volunteers. He grew up in Santa Clara and asked if he could walk precincts in my region because he was familiar with the neighborhoods. So far, he has walked three complete precincts and will be working on his fourth this week.
This past weekend, I had a precinct with over 100 doors to knock, all of them in two apartment complexes. I figured rather than break up the two complexes, I’d just give Bob one big list of people to contact. He came in last Saturday to get the list and meet Josh Morgan. Normally, Bob would take a couple lists and knock them out over a couple of days, but to my surprise, this list was back on my desk when I came in Sunday morning. It turned out Bob was unable to access the two apartment complexes, but because of his tenacity, he went up to the call boxes and proceeded to call everyone on his list in both complexes.
When faced with a challenge, Bob stepped up and got it done. He has been an absolutely amazing volunteer. I can’t wait for him to come back this weekend to knock some more doors... or buzz some apartments.

Santa Clarans for Economic Progress is proud to announce that the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Silicon Valley has officially endorsed the Santa Clara stadium campaign. The Korean American Chamber, a 501c(6) non-profit organization, has been serving the Bay Area for more than 30 years, promoting and facilitating commerce with the Korean-American community in Silicon Valley.
Speaking on behalf of the Korean American Chamber, President Charles Yun said, “The millions of dollars in economic benefits every year from a stadium would be a huge boost to small business owners in the city of Santa Clara.â€
We’re happy to have the support of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce, along with that of many other business, community, and political organizations throughout Silicon Valley. If you belong to an organization that would like to endorse the stadium project, visit our Contact Us page and let us know. |

Josh Morgan Fires Up the Volunteers |
It was another good turnout at Campaign Headquarters on Saturday for our weekly round of volunteer training and precinct walking. All told, nearly 40 volunteers packed the house along with a few kids and a Cocker Spaniel named Honey.
This week’s special guest was 49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan, who talked to volunteers about playing for the 49ers and living in Santa Clara. He recounted his experience of being a student at Virginia Tech during the tragic shootings that occurred there, answered questions from the crowd, signed autographs, and took pictures with volunteers.
Before heading out for a precinct walk, Dee Niemann (Honey’s owner, pictured at right) won a trivia contest that earned her tickets to a 49ers home game next season. It’s safe to say most stadium supporters are looking forward to those home games being played right here in Santa Clara. They’re also excited about the thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in economic impact for local businesses and schools.
Every weekend, we’ll continue the work of taking that message to the people of Santa Clara. You can join us by signing up on the Get Involved page on our website, and you can learn more about the stadium project by visiting SantaClaraStadiumFacts.com.
We hope to see you soon! |

Volunteer Spotlight: Learning the Ropes |

Every week between now and June 8th, we’ll highlight the volunteers who make this campaign possible. This week’s spotlight is courtesy of Field Organizer Eric Stroker:
This past Sunday the office saw a few new faces from one of the local high schools. Danielle, Michelle, Brooke and Punam had heard about the campaign and were eager to help out. Once we showed them the ropes, they were all very enthusiastic and excited to get out on the sunny day and talk to people about the stadium. Seeing how easy it was to knock on doors and talk to people in the neighborhood, they paired up and headed out.
In speaking to them afterwards, the young women said they really enjoyed the experience, were pleasantly surprised at the warm reception they received from Santa Clara neighbors, and how glad people were to have more information about the initiative. As the day ended they all agreed they had a great time and were looking forward to coming back in March to help knock on more doors.
It’s particularly exciting to see local students taking an interest in the stadium campaign because of the $26 million in new funding the project will trigger for Santa Clara Unified School District. That’s one reason why the SCUSD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to support the stadium initiative. You can learn more about how the stadium will benefit local schools by visiting SantaClaraStadiumFacts.com.
